We arrived late last night, so we didn't see anyone until this morning.
Gabe likes playing with toys! And he can totally sit up on his own! In the pictures I had seen of him sitting, he always had a back support. Also, when he is lying down, if you hold his feet, he will sit straight up!!! I have never seen a baby do that!
Whom do you think Gabe looks like??? This is Grampy...
They both are GBW! :)
Kien hugged and hugged Grampy for a LONG time!
I finally got my chance for big hugs from Kien.
Gabe was very happy to play with Grampy too!
Gabe was never happy to play with Grandma. :( Except Peek-a-Boo. He would smile and laugh then. Otherwise, he would screw up his face and cry! The only people he will allow to hold him are Mommy and Daddy. And now Grandpa! Not even Brandy! :-0
Kien is quite the little jumper on the trampoline!
We had fun playing outside. He poked a stick in a fire-ant mound. I taught him about the dangers. He spoke of it the next day, so the knowledge must have stuck!
Grant went to work with Greg, and the rest of us went to the Botanical Garden to see the Butterfly exhibit.
Kien fell asleep on his way to the Garden. Note that he is wearing TWO hats! LOL
Kien is pointing at a large Blue Morpho butterfly with closed wings so that you only see brown.
This gorgeous creature is not in the brochure of the Garden butterflies.
Kien found a Tiger Longwing.
Another Tiger Longwing.
Cathi put her finger next to this Paper Kite butterfly and he climbed on her!
Then he transferred to Brandy.
Kien loved this spot where he could sit on big rocks next to a pond! He didn't want to leave there!
A Tiger Longwing and a Small Postman.
Kien didn't want to leave, so Jeremy carried him piggyback.
I had been trying the entire time in the exhibit to catch a shot of the gorgeous Blue Morpho butterflies. You can only see the fly as they fly. When they land, they fold their wings so that you only see the brown on the outside of their wings. I finally caught one in flight against the window as we were leaving!
Happy Gabe!
Jeremy noticed a snake in a pond as we walked past! He and I went back to watch. It had a very large gold and black fish in its mouth! Quite the sight. Some people were calling it a water moccasin. I looked it up online, and I am not sure... It could be a harmless water snake. MLE, we need your help!
A most enjoyable morning!
Some really great butterfly/family shots here!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not a moccasin. It is a Nerodia, a species of Texas water snake. There are several species and I can't see enough detail to identify it past this. It is harmless.

MLE also told me: The snake is a brown water snake or banded water snake—they are harmless but often are pretty active biters. There are several species of these snakes—all in the genus Nerodia—in each southern state and they look very similar. I can’t see enough detail to be sure of the exact identity. I have grabbed them when I have needed one to show to students and have been bitten pretty hard. But they are not venomous. They eat a variety of things but fish primarily. I watched one some years ago grab a fish in a pond, haul it up on the bank and then devour the fish. It was pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet pix!!! And lovely times. I do see the resemblance to Grampy in the shape of Gabe's head / forehead and set of eyes. But his lower face / mouth look more like Cathi to me. It's so neat to see family characters blended almost imperceptably, isn't it? Of course, Gabe looks like Gabe, some will remind us!!!
