First Dirty Day

Today was the first day of work on the floor project: removing the builder's flooring and installing new. I understood the job would be dirty, but I didn't realize that we wouldn't be able to breathe! We stayed holed up in the bedrooms much of the day.

We covered as much as possible with sheets.

Once the dining set was dusted off, we had take out dinner at the table, now in the living room. Eating in the living room goes against a basic family rule!

The workmen left with the kitchen floor stripped and half of the room laid with ceramic tile, but we can't walk on it. Thus Brandy cannot get to her bedroom. I sleep on the pull-out bed part of the sectional. She is sleeping on another section. Daisy will be her teddy bear while Duke is mine.

Kien's Talents:
I have neglected to blog that he sings songs to himself. In the past couple of days, I have heard him sing "Skinamarinky Dinky Dink" (It comes out more like "skinadinky dinky dink doo") and "Jesus Loves Me" to himself. He even read a book to himself.

  1. You seriously are the best grandmother ever! First of all to be so hands on and then to endure the craziness of a remodel! Will you be our grandma too?

  2. The floor looks beautiful!!! Did you notice, Nina, that the "Skinamarinky Dinky Dink" song is the one Kevin "read" to him the other day? : ) I wonder if the two are connected? : ) So sorry it's hard to breathe with the workmen pulling up flooring. : (

  3. Oh, yes! That book is a special Grampy and grandchild book. (Remember -- that was Kevin's book first! He was happy to see so many familiar books but it didn't sink in that they were HIS!) It is a Canadian song and Grampy does a beautiful rendition of it.

  4. What a great experience for each grandchild to have Grampy read it to them! Is it an old book that Grampy read to little Karin and Greg? I love the flow of the words. It is no wonder that Kien sings it to himself!
And you are the best grandmother ever! What will they do without you when you leave? Sssshhhh....

  5. Sharon, Lois, & Bram had a children's TV show in Canada in the 80s. It is their song. We didn't know the song then, because we lived in MO and the kids were too old for silly songs. Actually, I am not sure how Grant knows the song. He taught it to me.
