A New Week and a Famous Boy!!!

A new week; a new schedule. I escort Kevin on the 10 minute walk to his morning program with Guinny. Then Guinny goes to Doggie Park to play with a friend. Grandma then has the morning to do whatever or attend the morning lecture. The theme is Nuclear Power and Weapons this week. Sam Nunn was the speaker today. I was late in arriving, but he had interesting things to say. Will have to read the whole story in "The Chautauquan Daily" tomorrow!

OH, MY WORD!!!! TODAY'S "Chautauquan Daily" HAS KEVIN'S PICTURE FROM FRIDAY IN IT!!!!!

WOO HOO!!!!

This week, instead of a morning class, I have an afternoon class beginning at 1:15. Kevin is off his program from noon to 2:00, so I have hired one of his counselors to come at 1:00 each day to watch him while I go to class. Then I pick him up from the lakeside at 4:00.

You may have noted the collection of Silly Bands Kevin wears on his arm. I bought him three packages last week -- glitter, glow in the dark, and rainbow ones.

Today, the new Chautauqua Silly Bands were available!

The shapes are (L to R top) Bell Tower, ice cream, fish, the Chautauqua Belle, notes; Middle: Hall of Philosophy, sailboat; Bottom: bat, dancer, tennis racket, The Athanaeum Hotel, the shape of Chautauqua Lake.

This afternoon as we passed the Amphitheater, Kevin wanted to see who was practicing. It was the Youth Orchestra practicing "La Boheme" with the voice students. He found a front row seat in the near empty auditorium and plopped himself down. He sat through two scenes before he was willing to leave! :-0

Before the concert, we had a brief bicycle session. This time, he wanted to stay on the flat parking lot. He rode faster than before, and I even caught him balancing briefly with neither training wheel touching down!!!

Then we went to the concert. He sat through 45 min. of opera again before he was too fidgety! :-0

An annoying thing happened: A family with two girls, ages 3 and 4, sat behind us. Before the concert began, Kevin and the 4 year old were communicating. When the performance began, the 4 year old continued to want to have Kevin's attention. Then the mother picked up her daughter and set her down on our bench beside Kevin!!! She wouldn't leave Kevin alone and was disruptive to everyone around. I pulled Kevin close to me and put my arm around him, hoping they would get the idea. They didn't. I had him sit on the other side of me, next to the aisle. Wouldn't you know, they let the little girl stand in the aisle next to him!!!! Oh, my.... They finally left; thank heavens! What are people thinking???

  1. That is SO cool about the newspaper article! : ) And as for the silly bandz, Leia and Kevin will have to trade someday! : ) And as for the annoying kids. Yeah, it happens. My goal is for my kids NOT to be "those" kids. : )
