Art Portfolio and Swim with Friends!!!!!

We watered the flowers this morning. A daily ritual for this wonderful, hot summer!

This was the last day of art class. The kids took home a portfolio of their week's work showing the many mediums used to create their masterpieces. Here are some of my favorites from those which came home today:

On the right is the template Kevin created to paint the paw prints on the left side of the page.

They experimented with pastels! The yellow creature is a kangaroo throwing something under the cave. The brown "path" is a hole, and, if you look closely, you can see a bird about midway in the hole.

Isn't this a lovely stained glass butterfly??!!

A 3-D paper creation made from the black paper pieces cut out of the stained glass window page.

We went swimming at the end of a long, hot day. The daily test is to swim from one rope to another and back again without touching bottom. He completed three-quarters of the distance, then stopped and cried saying he was too tired to finish. The lifeguard today was very forgiving and offered to let him start at the second rope and do the last lap again. He said he couldn't. He was too "ti-red." So that meant Grandma was to stay within arm's length of him. Both the new splash park and the waterslide were closed today. I think for lack of lifeguards. So, I sat on the edge of the pool near the diving board and he took repeated turns jumping off. Two young teen girls were also jumping off -- one a very good diver! He started chatting with them at the ladder and ended up "playing" with them the rest of our time there. They were kind and picked him up and threw him into the water repeatedly. I wondered if I should get their names for babysitting!

I mentioned to the girls that we were going to go to a movie after dinner and thinking about "Cars2" or "Mr. Popper's Penguins." They liked "Mr. Popper's Penguins" and told me "Winnie the Pooh" is also out. We chose "Mr. Popper's Penguins" and enjoyed it! It is a movie Brandy must see as she loves and collects penguins!

We finished the night with a stop at Dairy Queen!

BTW, about a week ago, Kevin asked to help me with the blog. So he gets to edit each post and publish them.
