Talent and Preseverance

My painter came this morning to do touchups. He got a kick out of Kevin watching him ALL the time! He even babysat while I ran to the bank for cash to pay him.

We saw a 3-D bird's nest collage painting at the gallery yesterday. I took this picture because I thought it would be easy and fun for Kevin to reproduce.

At home, we tried to recreate the nest and discovered it was NOT easy! Maybe if we had had the right glue, it would have been better. Nevertheless, Kevin did it with our gooey, runny Elmer's Glue. The buttons are eggs. Can you see the bluebird?

When I picked Kevin up from his afternoon art class, his teacher told me he is a very good artist -- patient and careful about his work! He does spend a lot of time to get things exactly right. Today's project was paint on canvas. Everyone else had completed their work, but Kevin was still diligently working when I arrived.

He was eager to tour some favorite works again before going home. This room has "Cynicity" -- unique and eye-catching. Kevin is intrigued by the uniformity of the planned urban environment, as I am also. I pointed out to him the variation of color produced by the shadows. The factories are made of clay bricks and the pollution clouds are crafted from paper cores while the houses and skyscrapers are styrofoam.

This is titled "King Cow."

This afternoon was his second piano lesson. He is demonstrating his "magic circles" which help to establish good hand position on the keys.

The first 20 minutes went very well, but that was the end of his concentrated attention. Unfortunately, his teacher saves the most difficult work to the end. She lost him the last 10 min.

His teacher mentioned her interest in yoga. Kevin said he likes yoga too. She asked him to do Downward Facing Dog. Then he demonstrated the position with hands on the floor and knees balanced on elbows! She was impressed and said she could not do that!

Aliyah's Grampa played croquet tonight with his grandchildren and Kevin. It was a fun, skill-learning lesson.

Guinness stole a plastic empty mayonnaise jar from the recycle bin. Tonight, Kevin was chasing Guinny around the house trying to take it from him. A dog tooth accidentally ripped the skin on Kevin's thumb (THE thumb!) next to the nail. Ouch!!!
